Pine Tree High School is proud to announce the launch of its first-ever Welding Competitive Team, coached by Welding Instructor Cory Davis. The team will compete in the Texas High School Welding Series (TXHSWS), an industry-driven, hands-on competition that challenges students to demonstrate their technical skills and professionalism in real-world welding tasks.
The Texas High School Welding Series is one of the premier welding competitions in the state, bringing together high school programs from across Texas. Unlike written tests, THSWS focuses on the skills welders use in the field—blueprint reading, precision, technique, and safety. Student work is evaluated by industry professionals, giving participants authentic feedback while preparing them for future careers.
“This competition gives students a true taste of what industry expects,” said Davis. “It’s more than a competition - it’s training for life after graduation.”
In addition to building technical expertise, the Welding Team provides students with opportunities to develop teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership - skills that transfer directly into the workplace.
The inaugural Pine Tree High School Welding Team includes:
Juan Reyes, Jr.
Jayden Reboyoso
Tryston Lough
Aiden Smith
Esteban Rios
David Bahena
Braylein Armstrong
Jeremiah Ayala
Pine Tree’s Welding Team is currently seeking industry partners to serve as mentors, competition judges, and critics of student work. Sponsors are also welcome to help fund travel, uniforms, and competition entry fees.
“We are excited to provide another opportunity for our students to learn skills that prepare them for success after high school,” said Jacob Lusk, Director of Career and Technical Education. “We look forward to seeing the Welding Team represent our district across the state this year."
