Dear Parents/Guardians:
We are excited to offer an incredible opportunity for our students!! Pine Tree ISD prioritizes a student-centered education, exemplified by our advanced math program allowing students to enter Algebra 1 by 8th grade. Following SB2124, 5th-grade students scoring in the 60th percentile or higher on STAAR will be automatically enrolled in Advanced Math in 6th grade, ensuring a path to Algebra I in 8th grade. Students that do not score in the 60th percentile will continue to have the opportunity to enroll in the advanced math pathway during the course selection process.
Brief Course Overviews:
6th Grade Advanced Math: will cover all Grade 6 math standards and some (about 40%) 7th grade standards. Students in this course will take the 6th grade STAAR at the end of their 6th grade year.
7th Grade Advanced Math: will cover the remainder of Grade 7 math standards (about 60%) and all of 8th grade standards. Students in this course will take the 8th grade STAAR at the end of their 7th grade year.
8th Grade Algebra 1: will cover all Algebra 1 standards. This is a high school level course. Students in this course will take the Algebra 1 EOC at the end of their 8th grade year.
Additional Considerations:
As a parent or guardian, if you do not wish for your student to be enrolled in an advanced math course at the beginning of 6th grade, written notification must be received by the campus principal no later than the first day of instruction.
For students that did not take a 5th grade STAAR test, an alternative grade level assessment equivalent to the rigor of STAAR will be given to determine possible enrollment. Students will be required to score in the 60th percentile to be considered for enrollment.
For students that took the 5th grade STAAR test but did not meet the requirement of scoring in the 60th percentile or better, the parent may request in writing for their child to be placed in the advanced math class in 6th grade. A final decision will be made prior to the first day of instruction by the campus principal or his/her designee on enrollment in the course.
After the first day of instruction, students will only be removed from the advanced math class at the end of the first nine weeks of instruction or at the beginning of 7th grade. Upon removal from the course, the student will be placed in the grade level appropriate math class. While all consideration will be given to keeping the student with the same teacher, no guarantees can be made.
Additional resources to facilitate student success can be found in the student’s Google Classroom and by accessing the teacher during morning and afternoon tutorial sessions.
Any additional questions about Advanced Math Courses can be directed to the campus principal.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
After watching the weather we have decided that the threat of lightning has forced us to move graduation to the Pirate Center. Doors will open to guests at 7:45 and the ceremony will begin at 8:30. Remember you must have a ticket to enter the gymnasium. We will live stream the event to the Theatre at the High School for those without a ticket.

"Everyday at Pine Tree ISD, we're teaching kids how to think, not what to think. We’re teaching kids how to rise to expectations not make excuses on why they can't. We’re teaching kids how to make good choices and good decisions so they don't have to endure a lifetime of pain for making poor decisions. We’re teaching kids you've got to put in whatever amount of work it takes to get the job done because you can't sit around and wait for someone else to do it. Basically, we are teaching kids how to be successful adults.” Steve Clugston, Pine Tree ISD Superintendent https://youtu.be/iNS3mLjsaJ8?si=pjwHkN1XvQJa-5Qc
